AQUA JOG

A moderate intensity, no to low impact program with a warm up, aerobic workout and cool down. Possible jogging in the shallow and deep end of the pool. Flotation belts provide buoyancy and full range of motion.

AQUACISE

 A low impact exercise class designed to increase muscle tone and flexibility with aerobic conditioning. No swimming skills required.

ARTHRITIS WATER EXERCISE

A structured Arthritis Foundation program taught by certified instructors.  Exercises have a specific purpose related to the joints and surrounding muscles affected by arthritis.  This program is designed to use the water to assist in fun exercises that focus on range of motion, strengthening, and conditioning/endurance.  It can be modified to each person's level of mobility.  Class meets 3 days per week.

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

Participants MUST be 16 years old by the last day of the course.  Participants must attend all classes and must pass the following prerequisite swim test:

- 500 yards continuous swim of (100 yards each) front crawl, breaststroke, side stroke (right and left side), and inverted breaststroke kick.
- Tread water, legs only for 2 minutes.
- Surface dive head first into 8-10' deep water.  Swim underwater a distance greater than 15'.

CPR, First Aid, Rescue Packs and textbooks are included.  There is a non-refundable $85 materials fee for participants who pass the swim test.

SILVERSNEAKERS SILVERSPLASH

Activate your aqua exercise urge for variety!  SilverSplash® offers LOTS of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance.  No swimming ability is required, and a special Silver Sneakers kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination.

Gives you the flexibility to attend Aquacise, Aqua Box and Aqua Jog classes any number of times within the 8 week session.  It's a great way to cross train by enjoying the water.

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS

All levels include personal safety and personal growth issues for discussion, rescue skills, sports and games alonf with stroke developement to provide a holistic, lifelong enjoyment of the water.

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS Ages 6 - 12 yeas old

Polliwog    Students must be at least 6 years old. This is an entry level class; no skills are required. 

Guppy    Students must swim on his/her front, back and side continuously for 25 yards (one pool length) without flotation devices.

Minnow    Students must swim the following strokes for 25 yards: Front crawl using rhythmic breathing, Back Crawl using good form and Side Paddle.

Fish    Students must swim the Front crawl using rotary breathing for 50 yards. Back Crawl using good form for 50 yards, Elementary Back Stroke for 25 yrads and Dolphin Dives for 15 Yards. Students must also tread water for 1 Minute.      

Flying Fish    Student must swim Front and Back Crawl for 100 yards, Side Stroke with scissors kick for 50 yards, and Breast Stroke for 25 yards. Students must also tread water for 5 minutes.

S
hark    Student must swim continuoulsy for 200 yards using proper forms of Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Side Stroke and Elementary Back Stroke. Students must also swim Breast Stroke for 50 yards, Butterfly Stroke for 25 yards and tread water for a minimum of 6 minutes using all kicks.

Camp

CAMP NEEHI AGES 3-5

Participants enjoy a camp-like experience as well as prepare them to attend Day Camp when they are of age.  Each week will have a different theme and special activiites. Camp activities are based on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.  Furthermore, in keeping with the mission of the YMCA, our program emphasizes developing a healthy spirit, mind and body.  And...WE HAVE A LOT OF FUN!  Children must be toilet trained. 

Registration will begin January 3, 2011

A $10 non-refundable deposit will secure your place in camp. The balance is due the week prior to attendance.  Financial assistance available for Y members.  A $5 late fee will be assessed for every 15 minutes after the noon pickup time.

DAY CAMP GRADES 1-8

The YMCA will once again be offering Day Camp to youth and teens.  See our camp brochure for details or visit or website www.lakecountyymca.org

A $25 non-refundable non-transferable deposit is required at the time of registration per child per week.  The balance of fees is due on the Friday before each week of camp.

The YMCA offers Fundays when school is not in session based on Madison Local Schools calendar.  Planned activities and field trips take place from 9am - 4pm, with extended hours available.  Some days may have additional fees to cover field trip costs.  Watch for flyers.

Certifications & Trainings

CPR/OXYGEN ADM./FIRST AID

Family & Friends CPR
The American Heart Association (AHA) Family & Friends CPR program teaches how to perform CPR and handle choking in adults, chidren, and infants.  The course is approximately 2 1/2 hours long.  This class is appropriate for individuals that want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card.  Class size is limited to 10 students.

Healthcare Provider CPR
This more advanced AHA course covers core material such as adult, pediatric and infant CPR, foreign-body airway obstruction and AED.  The course is approximately 4 hours long.  This course is appropriate for most individuals looking to fulfill a CPR requirement, or for anyone who must obtain a CPR certification card.  Class size is limited to 10 students. 
Registration deadlines will be one week prior to class.

Oxygen Administration/First Aid

Childcare

CHILD WATCH

For children three months thru kindergarten.  We offer supervised activities for children while parents are in the building.  An annual $5 per family registration fee is due prior to leaving a child.   Hours subject to change due to usage.

FUN FACTORY

Grades 3-5

An afterschool program for Red Bird, North Madison and Homer Nash Schools.  Children will be transported to the Y by a Madison school bus.  Parents must pick up their children at the Y. This program meets five days a week from 2:00-6:00 pm except on no-school days. When school does not meet, children may sign up for a Y funday. Includes swimming and homework time as well as a variety of other programmed activities. A $15 non-refundable registration fee is required. Space is limited.  Ongoing Program.

PRESCHOOL CHILDCARE

The East End Branch offers care for ages three thru second grade. Programs are licensed by the Ohio Department of Human Services. Our full-facility Y provides an outside playground, gymnasium with age-appropriate play equipment, swimming pool and fully-equipped child care area that fosters fun and learning in a safe and caring environment.

Full-day child care for children ages 3-5 years, from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.  A 30-minute instructional swim lesson is offered weekly.  Child must be toilet trained.

 A $15 non-refundable registration fee is required.

SCHOOL-AGE CHILD CARE

Full-time child care is available for kindergarten children, with afterschool care for grades 1 and 2 until 6:00 pm. Two 30-minute recreational swim times are offered weekly. A $15 non-refundable registration fee is required.  Ongoing Program.

HOLIDAY CHALLENGE
The holidays come quickly and we all feel stuffed!  Join this challenge and help maintain your weight during the holiday season through exercise and sensible eating.  Grab a partner and earn points for each day you workout.  The team with the most points wins!  Look for details.

CARFUSION

Routine in a rut?  Your body needs a change.  You're ready for some CarFusion.  Experience any one of these heart-pumping cardio classes:  Cardio Box, BOSU Body Blast, Core Pole or Hi/Lo Aerobics, or a combination of two or more.  Be prepared for anything.  Just what your body ordered.

COMPLETE FITNESS EVALUATION

An hour-long fitness test measures your body composition, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility.  Evaluate yourself in terms of all the components of fitness.  See where you are and know where you want to go in your fitness goals.  Please contact the Fitness Center for an appointment.  This is an on-going program.

CORE BURNER

This class is a concentrated class focusing on the core area, abdominals, low back, upper back and obliques.  The instructor may use any or all of the following equipment:  Stability Ball, Medicine Ball, BOSU Ball, weights and more.  Core strength is the basis for all daily functional movement.

COREPOLE

Take the exercises you can accomplish with resistance bands then add motion and a full range of mobility.  With bands of various resistance levels, and 360 degree movement around the pole, CorePole creates a unique exercise system that works all the angles and curves.

CYCLE

Cycling is a powerful aerobic conditioner that strengthens heart and lungs, burns calories and increases aerobic endurance. At any fitness level, cycling can help to progress to the next level. This class has a maximum limit and it fills quickly.

This class is made for those individuals who are interested in cycling but don't know where to start or a full hour class is intimidating. You will learn about seting up your bike, positioning and cycling basics.

GET HEALTHY LAKE COUNTY

Walk your way to a healthier lifestyle
 Become a member of Get Healthy Lake County's 10,000 Steps program.  The Surgeon General recommends 30 minutes of aerobic activity 3 times a week; if you walk 10,000 steps in a day (roughly 5 miles) you will exceed this recommendation.  Membership includes a pedometer, a calendar of step opportunities, a list of step equivalents, and a step log.  For details, call Lake Heath Best of Health Line at 1-800-454-9800. 



KID FEVER AGES 7-11

An aerobic dance workout incorporating core pole, games and resistance exercises that will challenge your inner funk, coordination, balance and endurance.  This class is guaranteed to keep your attention.

This Pilates class is a progressive style mat work. You'll pay special attention to proper form and precise movements, Core strength is the basis for all other exercises.

ORIENTATION

Our Wellness Center, with state of the art exercise equipment, is designed to meet the needs of members at various fitness abilities.  Basic Orientations, for members 16 years and up, are recommended and are free.  Simply call or stop by the Wellness Center to make an appointment.

We support fitness activities for children.  Youth ages 7-12 are required to attend a Family Orientation prior to use of the Wellness Center.  After completion of this orientation, youth may use the Wellness Cetner with direct parental supervision.  Members ages 12-15 must complete the Teen Fitness course described on page 9.

PERSONAL FITNESS PROGRAM

This program is based on behavior change.  It includes effective goal setting and strategies for helping new exercisers identify and overcome barriers.  This 12-week program is designed for those who have little time or motivation to exercise.  It's comfortable here.  The program is flexible, convenient and fun.  You'll have your own workout plan and stay motivated with the help and guidance of our trained staff.  Call Personal Fitness Coach Alyssa Weippert for an appointment at (440) 428-5125.  This is an on-going program.

Note:  Not to be confused with Personal Training.  YMCA Personal Fitness is a program designed specifically to introduce inactive people to regular exercise.



PERSONAL NUTRITION COUNSELING

If exercise alone is not helping you to lose weight, Lois Crosby, R.D.L.D (Registered and Licensed Dietitian), can help you navigate your way through your nutritional issues.  Lois specializes in nutritional counseling for weight loss, diabetes, blood pressure and blood cholesterol.  Four person sessions with Lois may help get you back in charge of your eating habits.  Call the Central Branch (440)352-3303 for an appointment.

PERSONAL TRAINING

This program provides five sessions with your personal trainer.  Single sessions may also be purchased, but our recommendation is that you start with the package first.  Personal training package expires 90 days after first session.  Contact Alyssa Weippert at aweippert@lakecountyymca.org or call (440) 428-5125 to schedule your first appointment.  This is an on-going program.

RUNNING CLUB

Have you ever wanted to run a 5K but didn't know where to begin?  You can begin here at East End.  You can be someone who has run marathons and 5Ks in the past or a novice.  All abilities are welcomed and encouraged.  We will get ready for a 5K that we will all run together.  The course ranges from 1-4 miles, depending on ability.  Be prompt as we will be leaving on time.   Weather permitting. SILVER SNEAKERS FITNESS PROGRAM

This is a unique physical activity program designed to encourage Medicare-eligible members to increase their physical activity.  Based upon "fitness, fun and friends", the fitness center-based program incorporates fun, social programming with an exercise program that enhances independent living skills.  The target market of SilverSneakers® is Medicare-eligible populations, primarily age 65 and older, with activity levels ranging from active to semi-sedentary.

Cardio Circuit
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout.  Upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography.  A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.  Ongoing Program.

Muscular Strength Range of Movement
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills.  Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.  Ongoing Program

SMART CIRCUIT

A spirited workout for boomers and those who are ready for something fun and exciting.  This class takes place in the Wellness Center and is a 40-minute interval workout for the beginner to intermediate exerciser.  The interval training combines the benefit of both strength and aerobic exercise with a set time at each station.  Smart Circuit is guaranteed to improve your mobility, strength and stamina.

TECHNOGYM

Get a great cardiovascular workout that takes you from one machine to the next, each interval having a different target heart rate. It's fun and will put variety in your workout routine.  Plus, you'll have the comfort of knowing you're exercising at an appropriate level for you. Once you're comfortable with the cardio circuit, set up another appointment with one of our trainers for the strength equipment. TechnoGym SmartKey technology guides you through your workout while tracking your progress, and it will keep you motivated.  Register and pay at the service desk and we'll set up an appointment with you.

Ongoing program for members only; one-time material fee of $30.



TEEN FITNESS AGES 12-15

This class is required for teens interested in using the Wellness Center.  Before a pass will be issued, teens must first complete two classes in the Wellness Center.  The classes will cover basic anatomy and physiology and proper use of the exercise equipment.  The class is ongoing and is limited to 6 participants.  Contact the Wellness Center to register for classes.

TEEN FREE WEIGHT ORIENTATION

Ages 12-15
This mandatory class teaches teens how to use the free weights using proper form and technique.  All teens must first complete Teen Fitness before making an appointment for the free weight orientation.  Contact Alyssa Weippert for details regarding this orientation.

Get ready to tone your body from head to toe, front to back and down the sides too!  Not one degree will be missed!  A perfect compliment to any cardiovascular workout or it can stand alone if you need to tone.

Yoga Beginners
This class is for those individuals who are new to yoga or want to perfect the basic poses.  We will be building the foundation for you to take on more challenging poses.
