*In order to become a summer camp counselor at the YMCA, you have to be at least 18 years old, preferably have experience working with groups of children, and must be able to lead groups of campers with enthusiasm, patience, and respect.

You will also gain real life work experience, skills and training, including:

• LEADERSHIP SKILLS: Learn by supervising campers, and engaging in decision-making, behavior management, and living ethics.
• DIVERSITY / INCLUSION: Working with campers and staff from a variety of places, cultural perspectives, and backgrounds.
• PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Communication, collaboration, critical chinking, creativity, and contribution.
• NETWORKING/RECOMMENDATIONS: The opportunity to build relationships with campers, counselors, senior Y staff and parents, which could lead to interviews, internships, teaching positions and more!
